Visit to Igny, France with

Crewkerne Twinning Association,

October 2006

In October 2006 Stoke sub Hamdon Band accompanied Crewkerne Twinning Association to Igny in France.  We stayed in St Nicholas College in a dormitory with rooms with three beds including bunks.

On Saturday morning we played for a Town Trail, walking through the streets of Igny and along the river band before finishing at the Railway Station.

On Saturday afternoon we played a short concert at Place de la Ferme under the market canopy.  During the concert Liz Best, the mayor's wife, conducted the band after we played Happy Birthday for her.

Saturday evening, some of the band joined the Twinning Associations at the Soiree whilst others took a trip to Paris and enjoyed a night time river cruise on the River Seine.

Sunday saw the signing of the new networking agreement in Burus sur Yvette, after which the Win Band from Burus played a short concert followed by Stoke Band. This time we asked Burus's mayor to join us on the stage and conduct the Band.

Sunday afternoon saw Stoke Band play a 2-hour concert in the prestigious Jardin de Luxembourg in Paris. The bandstand, or kiosk in French, was large and had very good acoustics. We were well received by the Parisian audience.  After the concert we had a band photograph taken in front of the Senate building.
